Automotive Technology
This course is designed to provide the students with the basic automotive knowledge and entry-level skills to become employed in the automotive repair industry. Students spend time in the classroom studying theory and time in the shop performing hands-on diagnosing, testing and repairing various systems of the automobile. Theory and operation is coordinated with safety, shop organization, professionalism, and proper use /care of hand tools, and shop equipment. This course maintains a successful “live work” program where students perform service on customer vehicles just as they would at a dealership. Preparation and testing for the State of Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection License is given at the end of the program. Students may also receive advanced credit in the Maine Community College system upon passing the ASE certification exams. Students interested in this course should possess basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills along with good work ethics and a desire to “know how things work”.
