Forestry/Wood Harvesting
This is a course designed for students considering a career in any phase of forest management, wildlife conservation, wood harvesting, or heavy equipment operation.  It offers a combination of classroom instruction, field trips, and hands-on training in the woods.  Safety is the number one priority throughout the course.  Students study forest management, chainsaw safety,  GPS training,  operation & maintenance, heavy equipment safety, operation & maintenance; and timber harvesting.  Students may operate a John Deere 440D cable skidder as well as operating chainsaws and hand tools. Recent additions to the program include computer simulators to learn to operate a single grip harvester & processor. Students may work to become a licensed arborist.

Articulation: University of Maine at Fort Kent 7-8 credits
Certifications possible: CPR, CLP Apprenticeship, Tractor Safety Certification, First Aid
